2 1/2 feet and still falling at snowbird!

It has been snowing in the mountains for the past 3 days and it is still going strong. 31 inches and counting at snowbird and this morning we even got a few inches at our apartment. Quite a change from just 4 days ago when it was shorts and T-shirt weather and Julie and I were exploring rock canyon as pictured below. Now everything in this picture would be buried under a few feet of snow.

Here's a picture of the courtyard from our balcony. We've received a few inches of snow but nothing compared to what is happening in the mountains.

The good people at Snowbird have been nice enough to set up a snow cam so obsessed people such as myself can get an up to the minute image of just how much snow has fallen and dream about getting fresh tracks in the new powder. Here's a picture of their setup before any snow hit. When it snows they winch the snow collecting tray to be at the level of the existing snow and you can watch the snow pile up. Usually they clear the tray off every day so you can see the new snow accumulate.

Below I've included a few images the snow cam has taken during this current storm. Here we are at just under 8 inches accumulated:

Approaching one foot of snow:
Over a foot and a half here:

Oh No, has there been a malfunction??? Nope, the entire snow measuring rig has been covered in massive amounts of snow:

Below I am also trying to embed time lapse video of the snowcam. I'm not sure if it will work and it will probably be out of date soon but right now it is fun to watch the snow pile up:

As you can see in preparation for the upcoming winter I have also added snowbirds real time current conditions to the right panel on the blog. It is shaping up to be a great snowboarding season and Julie and I are eagerly anticipating opening day.
