Julie and I have always loved snow and it is especially exciting to be getting snow in early October. I don't think it has ever snowed before my birthday before. Needless to say I was quite excited and immediately dashed outside for some pictures

Some of the other neighborhood kids clearly had the same idea and were doing a great job of collecting snow before it melted to make snowballs

Here's a picture from a quick break in the storm. Normally you could see Lone peak in this picture but not with the storm clouds. The ground was so warm that any snow that actually touched the ground melted immediately but snow that was propped up on blades of grass could survive for a little longer.

Fortunately it was not snowing inside our indoor climbing gym. It was snowing in the parking lot however.
Here's a picture of some of the nearby foothills at slightly higher elevations. They seem to have gotten a good bit of snow and may be ripe for the taking if an intrepid snowboarder were to hike up the hill a bit.
I don't have final confirmation on Snowbird yet but early reports indicate that it got dumped on with snow, a great way to start building up the base for the upcoming snowboard season. Also, the pass in the previous blog entry that we drove through with the top down just a few days ago is now under a foot or two of snow and will be closed for the season soon if it isn't already.
